Programs and Activities
Teen Read Week was celebrated from October 18-24. Book and game displays were focused upon for this event. The teens made GOCK puppets with Mrs. Gaudet and played games on the Wii game system. For a special treat, pizza and drinks were offered to those who attended.
Storyhours were held each Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. A guest reader, Mrs. Lacroix read, The Monster at the End of This Book by Jon Stone, on Tuesday, October 6.
Cribbage games were held weekly on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Read with Reilly sessions were held each Monday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
Book Review Circle met on Wednesday, October 21, at 10:30 a.m.
Mrs. Fortin instructed an Intro to the Internet Workshop on Monday, October 26, at 1:00 p.m. Participants were pleased with the program.
The annual Pumpkin Carving Night at the Country Pond Fish and Game was once again a huge success. Mrs. Dunne brought stencils and her talent for decorating. Participants brought snacks to share. Gratitude is given to Mrs. Mears for coordinating this popular event.
The Friends of the Gale Library
The Friends met on Tuesday, October 13, at 2:00 p.m. for their monthly meeting. The Book and White Elephant Sale was cancelled due to inclement weather. Got Books did not arrive for their scheduled pick up date to remove books from the shed. Mrs. Meserve will take small amounts of books to the Transfer Station periodically.
The Friends renewed passes to the Children’s Museum in Dover for an additional six months.
The library was once again open for Trick or Treat night from 5:30-7:30 on Saturday, October 31. The Friends distributed treats to visitors who stopped by.
Staff Update
Mrs. Gaudet attended a YALS (Young Adult Library Services) meeting at the Rye Public Library. Discussions were held about Teen Read Week. Ideas for future promotions pertaining to this age group were noted.
Technology Management
Units are operating satisfactorily at this time.
Facilities Management
Additional quotes were sent to Town Hall for the electrical updates to be done in the basement.
The windows in the library have been determined to be in poor condition. It was discovered that sills have rotted when the air-conditioners were removed.
Mr. Cote installed a Plexiglas partition on the lower level between the circulation desk and the reading area.
An abandoned bicycle was left at the storage rack. The Police Department was notified and arrangements were made to bring the bicycle to the station.
Professional Development
Work continues in classes enrolled at the University of Maine at Augusta.
