Minutes

1. Call to Order:
Chairman Rick Bailey called the meeting to order at 7:35 pm with the following members present: Chairman Rick Bailey, Treasurer Nancy Slombo, Member Deborah Holden, and Alternate/Secretary Lisa Babcock.  Minutes were transcribed and typed by Lisa Babcock.

Bailey appointed Babcock to stand in for the evening.

2. Recruiting New Members: Bailey asked for ideas for recruiting new members for Recreation.  He will put an ad in the paper asking for volunteers to work on Greenie Park, Senior Programs, Fall Fair, etc.

3. Greenie Park Field Maintenance Bids:  The Commission reviewed the bids for Greenie Park.  Slombo suggested limiting the number of cuts to 30 per season giving the landscaper to decide when to cut – keeping in mind that May, June and July are during baseball season and the grass should be shorter at that time.

The Commission decided not to have vegetation control or mosquito control. Newton Baseball can pay for vegetation control if they want it done.

Slombo noted that the contract should include mowing at the town beach – one cut per month.

Bailey will contact Marden Landscape and negotiate a contract.

4. Warrant Article for Senior Programs: Bailey will attend the deliberative session and speak on behalf of the Recreation Commission.

5. Logo Contest: Holden will contact the high school to see if any students are interested in participating.  Tabled until next meeting.

6. 2009 Calendar: Tabled until next meeting.  Holden will contact Cinema 95 to set up a movie night for February vacation.

7. Adjourn:
Bailey called the meeting adjourned at 9:30 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

Lisa Babcock, Secretary
Newton Recreation Commission
