Check out pictures of the Newton Police Station located at 8 Merrimac Road.
The only thing left that we as taxpayers have a voice in anymore is our own community. We virtually have no say in federal expenditures and very little say in state affairs. But within our communities the fiscal decisions we make establish our community’s value and create an environment that develops and formulates our children’s and family character.
On Tuesday March 13th, the Town of Newton demonstrated what it means to be part of a thoughtful, forward looking and caring community. Despite being entrenched in a less than vigorous economy and facing an uncertain national economic and political direction, the taxpayers voted to make a significant investment in our community.
On March 13th the Town of Newton voted seventy-one percent in favor of the purchase of the Bearce property. Thank you to the residents for your dedication, thoughtfulness and personal sacrifice. Although the police department is the immediate benefactor, I believe the purchase of the Bearce property will ensure the integrity of the Town’s infrastructure, the quality of public service and our valued way of life for the foreseeable future.
I also want to thank Chester and Sandra Bearce, and the Bearce Family for their sense of community, their generosity and their appreciation for “whence they came.”
Anyone who has taken a good look at the property realizes the real value is worth much more than what we’ll pay for it. The Bearce Family past and present can rest assured that they have done a very honorable thing and that the Town is, and will continue to be, extremely appreciative.
